Incentivized Testnet continues, and in Week 2, we have planned some fun for all testnet participants! The community can begin suggesting ideas for types of decentralized applications that can be built using Goracle feeds. Some of the best ideas have a chance to be turned into an app! We will create challenges for developers to build the top 10 app ideas that the community suggests.

We also want to focus on building the international community. We have a lot of text to translate, and the goal is to get as much of Goracle’s documentation translated into various languages. Then, for the fun part: Memes! Help keep our developers and community laughing by posting your funniest memes. Not that creative? No problem! Send us a picture of a part of your city, and include the Goracle logo somewhere in the photo.

Instructions can be found via the Incentivized Testnet Portal

Submit Your App Idea — Task #1

The most important task of this week is to submit your app idea. You can submit up to 10 ideas for apps that can be built using Goracle data feeds. Each valid submission will get you 10 points. Furthermore, the top 10 app idea suggestions will be created as challenges on Gitcoin for developers to build. If your idea is selected as a challenge, you will receive 1000 points. If your example app is built by a developer, you can receive up to $250 USDC!

  • Suggest an App Idea: 10 Points
  • Your app is selected to be a challenge for developers: 1000 Points
  • Your App Idea is developed on Gitcoin: 250 USDC

What is an Oracle?

To come up with App ideas, it helps first to understand what a Blockchain Oracle is. Decentralized Applications do not have access to traditional APIs or data sources. All a dApp knows is in the balances, round numbers, and other general information that can be included in a transaction or on the chain. This means blockchain applications are limited only to the information on chain, unless an oracle can provide outside data.

An example of this is if an app wants to show the latest weather on chain. Since this data is not available on chain (weather is a real world event), it has to use an oracle. Another example is an app that needs to know the price of bitcoin to do something on chain. The price of bitcoin comes from the real world, and therefore this app would need an oracle.

What is a valid submission?

A valid submission provides a simple example, and the kind of feeds it uses and the purpose of the application. For example:

A logistics application that uses sensors to track the temperature has not gone below a specific threshold. The application is used for Quality Assurance guarantees.

*For custom APIs, include a link of the API endpoint.

Examples of Invalid submissions:

An Insurance Application

This example does not specify which feed is used, and does not provide a simple example of how the app might work.

Help take Goracle Global with translations — Task #2
